Thank you, NVC families, for a successful season despite all of pandemic-related chaos! We are happy to report that there were no covid outbreaks and only a few random player/coach quarantines that did not extend to entire teams. Thank you for your diligence and patience as we juggled players and coaches, at times, to give these girls a season.
We hope to field at least two teams this fall, a 12s team and a 14s team. Stay tuned for more details!
In the meantime, there are several camps this summer. Drees and Northern Lights, both in Burnsville, offer camps and small group or private lessons. Northfield Community Ed will offer camps for all skill levels. There are several other organizations that will offer camps as well, such as Lakeville South.
We are seeking new board members for the 2021-2022 season. If you are interested, please contact us at email@example.com.
Tryouts will take place as follows:
6th grade and younger: Tuesday, January 5, 6:30-7:30 pm at Sibley Elementary. Girls can start to arrive no earlier than 6:15.
7th and 8th grade: Tuesday, January 5, 7:45-8:45 at Sibley Elementary. Girls can start to arrive no earlier than 7:30.
9th graders and older: Wednesday, January 6, 7:30 - 8:30 pm at Sibley Elementary. Girls can start to arrive no earlier than 7:15.
We will do everything possible to keep everyone safe during tryouts and the season. The NVC Voluntary Waiver of Liability Agreement and the NVC Covid-19 plan posted or by clicking here. Please send the signed Waiver with your child for tryouts. Your child will not be able to tryout without this form. Players must wear a mask during the entirety of practices and games until further notice. Parents are not allowed to enter the building for tryouts or practices.
Players must have the following to attend tryout: 1) a check in the amount of $30 made out to NVC for tryout fee; 2) signed Waiver; 3) water bottle; 4) face covering; 5) jersey size.
We are not able to offer sample jerseys to try on this year for ordering sizes. Due to the quick turnaround, we will be ordering jerseys from Champion Sports in Northfield. We have used them for fall season jerseys in the past. Jersey sizes offered: youth small though XL and adult x-small through XX large.
Practices will be posted once teams and coaches are assigned. Generally, practices will be 6:15-7:45 or 7:45 - 9:15 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and one team on Thursday 8:15-9:45. Teams will generally practice two times per week. We hope to start practices on January 12.
Anyone traveling out of the country over winter break or at any time during the season will be required to quarantine upon returning prior to returning to any team activities. The player must quarantine for 14 days from the date of returning to the Unites States OR for 10 days with a negative test at day 7.
Please contact us with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Good news! The Northfield School District will allow facility rentals for community organizations starting January 4, 2021. As we are already on the schedule from our prior reservations for gym time for the season, we are tentatively planning tryouts for 4th - 8th graders on Tuesday, January 5 and for 9th graders and up on Wednesday, January 6.
We are awaiting final instructions from the District on participant requirements, and will send out more detailed tryout information when we receive these instructions. We do anticipate that all players would be required to wear masks at all times.
If you previously registered and have decided not to play, please let us know by emailing email@example.com.
Our practice days this year will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and one team on Thursdays. We fight for gym time every year and always do our best. We normally like to avoid Wednesdays, but four teams will practice on Wednesday night. The Thursday night practice will be 8:15 - 9:45, which is later than we normally like. We may be able to shift some practices depending on the Northfield's basketball association practices, particularly once we hit March.
We anticipate that practices will start as soon as possible (think second week of January, hopefully). Youth sports are able to start practice in Minnesota effective January 4, but games are still prohibited. We anticipate that the season will run for most teams until early to mid April.
Finally, we want to manage everyone's expectations. We are limited to a maximum of 6 teams, which is one fewer than the last few seasons. We are also facing some uncertainty as to coaching due to health concerns and lack of college student availability. We can only field teams for which we have coaches. If any parents are qualified and able to coach, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please contact us with questions.
We have been informed by Northfield Public Schools that we will not have gym access until at least January, 2021. We have therefore decided to postpone tryouts until January and offer a shortened season with playdates starting in late January or early February. All of these plans are fluid and dependent on the school district.
We have also determined that there is too much uncertainty to offer fundraising opportunities this season.
We will keep you posted with information as we are able via email, our website, and Facebook.
We have closed registration for the 2020-2021 Season. We are working on rescheduling tryouts and will communicate that information as soon as we are able.
Over the last week, we have heard from several people that their players have been told to quarantine. With the Northfield 9th and B squad teams being told to quarantine as of today, we estimate that about one-third of those registered to tryout will be unable to attend.
We are therefore making the decision to postpone tryouts to a later date. Those players currently playing on a high school team will not be able to tryout until the high school season has ended, so would perhaps be looking at December 1 as a possible date. Girls in 8th grade and younger who are not playing on a high school team can tryout sooner. We will communicate revised plans as soon as we are able.
As with everything in 2020, we appreciate your patience and flexibility!
Thank you for registering for the 2020-2021 Northfield Volleyball Club tryouts! We are excited to welcome our teams back into the gym.

As much as possible, we would like to avoid having a crowd for check-in. Please plan to drop your child off and pick her up at the end. We understand this may be difficult for the younger players. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tryout time.
Players must have the following to attend tryout: 1) a check in the amount of $30 made out to NVC for tryout fee; 2) registration completed online by 9 am on Sunday, November 8; 3) signed Waiver; 4) water bottle; 5) face covering.
We are not able to offer sample jerseys to try on this year for ordering sizes. If your child played last year, we will be ordering the same style jersey, so try that on and have your child be prepared to let us know your jersey size at registration check in. Jersey sizes offered: youth small, medium, or large and adult x-small through XX large.
Teams will be posted during the week following tryouts. While we like to avoid cuts, they are likely unavoidable this year due to gym availability and facility use restrictions. Practices are tentatively scheduled to begin December 1. The season runs through March or April, depending on the level.
Tryouts will be held at the Faribault Armory, 3000 W Airport Rd, Faribault, MN.
11s/12s and 14s (4th – 8th grades): 2–3:30pm
16s and 18s (9th – 12th grades): 4-6pm
If your child plans to tryout for a 2020-2021 NVC team, she must be registered through the website by Sunday, November 8 at 9 a.m. Walk-up registration will not be allowed this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

UPDATED Tryout Info! (10/27/2020)
November 8, 2020
Faribault Armory, 3000 W Airport Rd, Faribault, MN 55021
12U and 14U (4th - 8th grade) will be 2-3:30 pm
16U and older (9th - 12th grade) will be 4 - 6 pm
Additional tryout information will be provided closer to the date. Your player should plan to wear a face covering to enter/exit the facility. Neck gaiters are suggested for ease of wearing during huddles and other times when players are closer than 6 feet apart.
We will field as many teams as we have coaches and practice space to accommodate. Please review the player handbook (link below) for information regarding team formation and player/parent expectations. Players should be prepared to be flexible with practice days/times, which could include Wednesdays (older teams), Fridays, and Sundays.
Our 11s, 12s, and 14s, teams will play in the Power League at the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse. Tentative dates are:
Youth League (11s): January 10, January 17, February 21, March 7, March 28
12s Division: January 9, January 17, February 20, March 7, March 27
14s Division: January 10, January 16, February 21, March 6, March 28
12s and 14s teams will have additional tournaments. Our 16/17s teams will play at various tournaments around Minnesota.
Northfield Public Schools will be meeting in the next few weeks regarding building use. We are optimistic that we will be allowed practice space! Registration will be opening soon for the winter season. We anticipate tryouts in early November for 11s and 12s teams. Tryouts for 14s and older will be after the high school season ends. Stay tuned to the website and Facebook page for further updates.
Due to the inability to practice at school facilities, NVC will not be able to offer a fall volleyball season. Northern Lights and M1 are offering fall programming for all ages if you are looking for an alternative.
We hope to be able to offer some clinics or open gyms in October and to be able to start the winter season earlier (late October or early November) since the season will be interrupted with the move of the high school season to early spring. All of this, of course, is contingent upon the ability to practice in school facilities and upon the pandemic status at that time. We hope to hold winter season tryouts in October.
For winter season, we will be unable to practice at St. Dominic's, as the school will be using the gym for classrooms to allow for spacing students out. Please be aware that we will need to be creative with practices. Players should plan on Friday and Sunday practices, and possibly Wednesday.
The NVC board will continue to review options. Updates will be posted on the website and Facebook page as new information is received.
Thank you for your patience!
Northfield Volleyball Club is looking for additional board members. Please connect with any board member to discuss.
In the event that the Northfield Schools must be closed due to inclement weather, all Northfield Volleyball Club practices will be cancelled for that evening.
